What it’s about:

Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life.

Four caskets. Two bodies.

Jessica and Jude Day witness their funeral and that of their parents a few yards away from mourning family and friends. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.

Six months later, two thirty-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip. Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.

Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul—the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed. Her chance for redemption comes in the form of a next-door neighbor, one Senior Master Sergeant Monaghan. He’s sexy, dangerously alluring, and riddled with emotional issues from years of service. He’s also … So. Damn. Grumpy.

Their mission is simple: Let go, start over, don’t kill anyone, and pray that nobody wakes the dead.

I’ve only read one other book by Jewel E. Ann, and it was a romantic comedy. I had no idea what I was getting into when I picked up End of Day. I’m glad I didn’t start this series until it was completely published since I don’t think I could take waiting for the next book! I’m completely hooked on this fabulous trilogy!

Written in 3rd person narrative with a dual timeline plot, End of Day is very detailed and complex. The premise is brilliant and unique. The use of flashbacks to tell the Knights’ backstory is seamless. The beginning might leave you feeling a bit confused because it’s not explained. However, I think that is part of the author’s plan: all will be revealed eventually! I read slowly and devoured all the details—not only because it’s an incredibly good story, but also I know I’ll need to remember those details in the next installment (Middle of Knight).   While not a romantic comedy per se, it has more than a fair share of humorous situations. The book is not easily defined in any one genre. This adventure, spy, mystery, romance, dark comedy, contemporary fiction will keep you on your toes and your eyes glued to the book.

I thought the use of 3rd person point of view was the perfect choice for this book. It allows the Knights’ mysterious past to be revealed tidbit by tantalizing tidbit. I felt a bit tortured by the slow drip of Jillian’s past; I desperately wanted to gobble up her entire story. With every new layer revealed, the foreboding increased andI felt more dread. I NEED to know why Jillian is the person she is. I want more, more, more of Luke and Jessica (nope, not telling…read the book and find out what I’m talking about).

Jackson and twin sister Jillian are perfect together; I love how Jackson looks out for his twin as if he is her older brother. Jackson is a sexy, lethal, computer nerd. I didn’t get enough of him! Jillian is complicated, intelligent, and unpredictable. Jillian is night and day, black and white. Kickass and sassy on the outside, she is a messed up, vulnerable girl on the inside. Her past haunts her. Juxtapose the unconventional, sexy thirty-something twins with the eccentric mix of elderly/older neighbors and you’ve got a sizzling start to the Jack & Jill Series.

End of Day is a smart, gripping read. Jewel E. Ann has included plenty of fun play-on-words, scandalous neighborhood antics, a mysterious back story, addictive adventure, and a charismatic cast of characters. Your next mission: read this book!

About the author: Jewel is a free-spirited romance junkie with a quirky sense of humor.

With 10 years of flossing lectures under her belt, she took early retirement from her dental hygiene career to stay home with her three awesome boys and manage the family business.

After her best friend of nearly 30 years suggested a few books from the Contemporary Romance genre, Jewel was hooked. Devouring two and three books a week but still craving more, she decided to practice sustainable reading, AKA writing.

When she’s not donning her cape and saving the planet one tree at a time, she enjoys yoga with friends, good food with family, rock climbing with her kids, watching How I Met Your Mother reruns, and of course…heart-wrenching, tear-jerking, panty-scorching novels.
