Lake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door’s peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She’s also a bit sexually-frustrated.
God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three years earlier.
It was one day.
One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.
His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.
When life finally gives them their chance, it’s a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.
“We would be Cage and Lake. We would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger.”
***This book is a standalone. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that any readers who have not, but may consider, reading the Jack & Jill Series, do so before reading this book. It contains spoilers to Jack & Jill.
I reviewed a two chapter teaser earlier, and predicted it would be a 5-star read. I totally called it!
“Based on a two chapter teaser, I’m calling One by Jewel E. Ann a smash hit! Funny, tender, and snarky in friendly banter way, Lake and Cage have coincidently met again, and immediately the Sparks start to fly.”
Now that I’ve read the entire book, here is my entire review:
My first Jewel E. Ann book was Undeniably You. I LOVED that book! The characters, the premise, the story structure were all perfect. Then, I found out that Ms. Ann had written other books. I next devoured her Jack & Jill series. Wow, that is one strange yet powerful and enthralling series! That is where I met Cage and Lake, and they are two of the most engaging characters ever. One is a standalone, and any reader will fully appreciate the story, but readers who have read the Jack & Jill series will utterly melt.
Lake Jones is a survivor. It took her awhile to figure it out, and it took one kiss from Cage Monaghan to give her hope again. After the death of his father, Cage has become singularly focused on one thing. He wants to make his father proud by becoming a football great. He has not forgotten that one kiss he shared with a girl looking for his father’s girlfriend, and when he happens to run into her again in a coworker’s apartment building….all bets are off.
Cage and Lake had smallish roles in the Jack and Jill series, but they’re the stars of the show in One. Let me tell you, they are Super Novas. These two characters couldn’t get more perfect. Now, they’re not really perfect, but they’re pretty darn close. Their banter? Awesome. Their outlook on life? Fabulous. Their chemistry? Sizzling. They’re damaged but trying to move on. They are like one another’s life preserver.
“Don’t forget to love me.” –Lake
One is romantic comedy for its banter and humorous situations, but there is more to this story than pithy repartee (although you’d never know it by the number of passages I highlighted in my ebook). Ms. Ann has included some lovely messages about self-image, family, loyalty, atoning for past sins, and living in the present.
There are so many “ones” in this book, and each made my heart race a little. Some made me laugh, and others made me teary-eyed. If ever there was a perfect spinoff, One is it! If every there was a perfect spin-off to a spin-off, it would be Flint’s story. This newly introduced character is priceless!
Need an escape? Read One. Need hope? Read One. Need a laugh? Read One. Need to fall in love again? Read One.
I’m already planning my re-read!!
