Take You Apart is a grizzly, dark thriller reminiscent of a Jo Nesbo novel. The one big difference is that the chief detective has the help of a psychic!

Poor, poor Caleb! The introduction to this character and his young life is so difficult to read. His father’s assumption that his visions and drawings are the sign of being possessed by the devil is frightening!   The aftermath of his zealous father’s actions is shocking. Between his father and his visions, it is surprising that Caleb is a functioning human. While Caleb might be a tad socially inept, he is a great help to the police—especially when it comes to the current serial killer they are tracking.

The character interaction is excellent. Caleb’s relationship with the main detective, Jack, is dynamic. Jack has a fatherly influence on Caleb, but remains his friend and associate. Makayla, a journalist trying to score a tell-all story, turns into a romantic liaison for Caleb. Ethan, Caleb’s best friend and agent, is particularly interest. Did I say agent….I forgot to mention that Caleb not only assists the Jack on his cases, but he is an accomplished artist.

This fast-paced read is not for the faint-of-heart as the violence is graphically described. Take You Apart is police procedural with an artistic psychic and a little romance thrown into the mix. The characters are interesting. The writing is solid. The story line is gripping. I’m looking forward to the next T. J. Spade book, and Caleb’s next case.

Take You to Hell: Book Two of The Everett Files

Caleb Everett knows murder. He’s seen inside the minds of psychopaths, sociopaths and the deranged, and witnessed crimes of passion, hate, opportunity and revenge. But Caleb Everett isn’t a profiler or a cop … he’s a psychic. Teaming up with Homicide Detective Jack Rafferty, he uses his ability to catch murderers before they kill again, and potential murderers before they kill at all. This time around Caleb has two cases demanding his attention; one perpetrator out for revenge and a serial killer sending sinners to Hell at the flick of a match. And if that isn’t enough to deal with, Caleb also has a target on his back. Someone wants his world to unravel and is plucking at the threads. If Caleb succeeds in solving these cases will he be damning himself by saving the innocent?
