What it’s about:

Everyone just stop for one bleeping minute so we can all get real with each other. Being a mom is some tough $#!†. You’re constantly wearing questionable substances that make you ask, “is this chocolate or … oh, crap …” and your purse is merely a receptacle for three-week-old snacks and broken crayons.

Let’s be honest … even when we’re doing this “mom” thing right, we’re somehow doing it completely wrong.

Pardon us while we dust off our collective Mother of the Year trophy and proudly present you with an epic anthology of #MOMFAILS.

*Stories inspired by real life (unless you’re a cop, then it’s all complete fiction). Names and situations have been changed to protect the guilty (and by guilty, we mean the moms). Because motherhood is a battlefield and we’re all just trying to survive by any means necessary.

Featuring short stories from: Alissa York, A.M. Willard, BL Berry, Carina Adams, Claudia Burgoa, Crystal Burnette, Dylan Allen, Faith Andrews, Gia Riley, J.A. DeRouen, Kate Anslinger, Leddy Harper, LK Collins, LL Collins, Marie James, Piper Rayne, Riann C. Miller, Shari J. Ryan, Stephanie Rose, Stephie Walls, SM West, TL Swan, Teresa Michaels, and foreword written by: Nicole Kane Knepper.

My Thoughts:

No one ever tells you just how challenging parenting is going to be.  It’s all “bundles of joy” and “pregnancy glow” until the labor starts.  In the #MomFail anthology, 24 authors give readers 24 reasons to laugh through the pain.  The 24 short stories in the anthology provide plenty of chuckles.

Whether you are currently parenting little ones or your children are grown, you will relate to at least one, if not all, of these short stories.  The challenges of returning to work while still breastfeeding brought back somewhat embarrassing memories for me!  The short story on traveling with an infant, reminded me of the grotesque amount of baby paraphernalia I used to haul for every family vacation, as well as the inevitable need to feed or change a diaper while restricted to your seat on what seemed like an endless flight.  I’ll admit that none of these challenges seemed at all funny while enduring them, but these talented authors do make the situations comical in hindsight.

Some of the laugh-through-the-tears topics covered in #MomFail are: pregnancy hormones, fear of labor, returning to adulthood after life with a newborn, traveling with baby, interrupted romantic interludes, and single parenthood.  If you’ve ever held the title of mom, you’ll laugh along with the realism of the short stories.  If you don’t have children–for whatever reason–#MomFail will either set you up for realistic expectations of motherhood or convince you are not cut out for parenthood!

The message each of the 24 mom-coms–as the authors have dubbed their short stories–is one of love.  Despite the embarrassment, challenges, and their failure at becoming #SuperMom, each of these author-moms’ lives has been filled with an overwhelming joy.  Would they do it again?  Absolutely!
