What it’s about:
Austin James was always my #1 crush – and off-limits – until a college hook-up showed me he was every bit the playboy his rock-star reputation promised. Now, he’s back after
Sex God is Katie McCoy’s latest contemporary romance that features a rock star, Austin James, and his best friend’s younger sister, Mia Stevens. The rash kiss Austin imparted on Mia in college has left them thinking of each other for the past eight years, and the infamous “bro code” has kept them apart until a chance run in at a celebrity event.
All the fame and success hasn’t made up for years of emotional neglect by Austin’s parents. Inside the sexy rock star is still an inadequate young boy who desperately wants his parents approval. He is not only insecure about himself, but he acts out to uphold his reputation as a badass rock star. I found myself sympathizing with Austin even while I detested some of his player behavior and his use of the “bro code” to avoid Mia.
Mia, who encouraged Austin to pursue his dreams, is stuck making “listicles” for the tabloid, ChatBuzz, instead of going after a journalism job at a reputable newspaper or magazine. When Austin says he will give an exclusive interview to ChatBuzz only if Mia is assigned to the job, it could be Mia’s big chance to break out. I loved how Mia persistently pursues this opportunity while fighting her lingering attraction to Austin.
Naturally, Austin and Mia can only deny their attraction for so long. When the flirting and banter begins, so does the fun. Mia and Austin make a great couple, and I was rooting for their relationship to work out. I don’t get the taboo of dating someone’s sibling as angst, but Sex God is a fun, quick read.
