What It’s About:

How she came to us doesn’t matter.
Why she’s here. Doesn’t matter.

Yvette Nightingale has something we need. We were not meant to be soul mates. We were not meant to be lovers, or friends, or partners looking for answers.

We were just going to use her up, throw her away, and leave her behind.

But we made a mistake. We fell for her. We fell for the way our bodies move as one and the way we come together at night. We fell for her smile, and her eyes, and the soft moans spilling past her lips when we take her together.

We’re in to her.

But will she be in to us once she learns the truth?

My Thoughts:

In to Her by J.A. Huss took me completely by surprise! The book is categorized as erotica, and it certainly has its fair share of smoldering scenes, but it is so much more interesting than the standard fair of that genre.

First, the heroine’s name, Yvette Nightingale, is like a siren screaming, “there is a story behind that name”. Second, her bar, The Snowbunny, made my heart melt. I loved the name and the idea of a locals’ hangout mid-mountain in the middle of nowhere. That remote setting can only lead to something interesting happening in the story! Third, the first scene is a mind-blowing set up for a very unique story. No spoilers here, so I can’t spill the beans on the crazy start to this story.

Ms. Huss highlights the dichotomy of the intimacy and the menace surrounding her main characters, Yvette, A.J. and Logan. Yvette’s despair and fatalistic acceptance of her future is heart breaking. The tension between A.J. and Logan is palpable. These lovable bad guys at first spark fear, but later their positive advice and tenderness creates a sense of uncertainty and ambiguity about how they will proceed and the fate of our heroine, Yvette.

I love that J.A. Huss can write what most people would consider one long smutty ménage-a-trois that has a layered thriller lurking in the closet that is waiting to jump out and be revealed. Throughout the hopping from one sex scene to the next, there is an electrical current amping up as tidbit after tidbit is revealed from the three players narrating this story. You know something is going to happen from the start, but Ms. Huss makes her readers question what twist will change the presumed ending and where the twist will take the characters. From the crazy start to the surprising and gratifying ending, In to Her is a quick, intense read!
