What It’s About:

Plenty of action-adventure in this romantic-suspense tale. Photographer Kayli Heddon is given the biggest assignment of her career—a photo essay on the Everglades Restoration—and a special airboat safari is arranged, so Kayli can get her pictures. What she doesn’t count on is being stranded alone in the Everglades with her handsome and unpredictable airboat guide. Kayli is forced to learn some tough lessons. Trust means everything in the dangerous River of Grass, and a skilled partner makes all the difference in your survival.

Skye Landers takes the airboat safari gig as a favor to his cousin who is called out of town. Skye doesn’t expect the governor’s photographer to catch his eye, but Kayli Heddon is unlike any woman he has ever met. He knows he should keep his distance, but common sense flies out the window whenever she gets near.

Unfortunately, Kayli thinks honesty is the most important thing in a relationship—any relationship—and Skye Landers is a fraud. When secrets surface from his past, Kayli and Skye are soon on the run from more than just alligators.

Guest Reviewer Frannie’s Thoughts:

The book was a fun read because it kept you in suspense the entire time.  It was well written and included romance, excellent description of characters, drama, deception, betrayal, drugs, violence and suspense.  Just when you think you know what is going to happen, additional characters are brought into the mix and the story continues to unfold into a dramatic thriller.

The story starts out with a description of photojournalist Kayli Heddon, a young beautiful woman who has lost both of her parents and her mentor and protector is Governor Drake of Florida. The governor is looking for re-election and comes up with a plan that he believes will get him re-elected. However, he has some type of leak within his team and wants to keep his plans a secret so that his opponent will not have the opportunity to counteract his position.  The only person he totally trusts with his secret is Kayli.

Kayli is sent to the Everglades to take pictures of the environment and the animals that would be affected if the governor does not implement his new plan.  Kayli takes the challenge and goes to the Everglades on a fact-finding mission. Given the inherent dangers in the Everglades, she is given a local guide, Skye Landers, who is handsome, unpredictable and very protective.  Their chemistry is ramps throughout the book, but there are risks.  Skye is deceiving everyone by posing as one of his cousins, and a deceitful liar is a “no-go zone” for Kayli. As the story progresses, readers learn Skye’s background and the various, familial secrets he keeps.  Skye’s stress over Kayli learning of his deception is palpable.

The story tension is high as Kayli falls into one hazardous predicament after another  From leech infested waters to circling alligators, Skye keeps her safe. The story angst escalates as Skye’s secrets keep him from acting upon his increasing attraction to a woman who will not tolerate anything but absolute honesty. Skye is in a precarious position and he does not see a way out of his predicament and his growing yearning for Kayli.

The story reaches its zenith when Skye’s two realities collide, and Skye is torn between who he should protect…his outlaw cousins or his new infatuation.
