Review: Out of Love by Jewel E. Ann

☆☆➹⁀☆ 5 stars ☆➹⁀☆☆

About the Book:

Conspiracies. Corruption. Serial killers.

You name it–I’m fascinated by it. My mom always blamed my overly curious and highly suspicious mind on my dad.

My incredibly overbearing dad.

Mr. No One Is Good Enough For My Daughter has been terrifying my dates since I turned fifteen.

College is my chance to be free from his control and date any guy I want.

I’m absolutely certain he would hate Slade Wylder–almost as certain as I am that I do too.

Since when have I shied away from trouble?

Slade fascinates me. He lives in a house I’m certain is haunted. His dog is trained as well as any guard I’ve ever seen. Rumor on campus is that he deals drugs. It would explain a lot.

But it doesn’t explain why he saves me from my darkest moment.

It doesn’t explain why I can’t stop thinking about him.

And the explanation I finally discover is far more dangerous than any rumor.

My Thoughts:

Out of Love is a sequel to author Jewel E. Ann’s Jack and Jill Series. This book can be read as a standalone. If this author is new to you, be forewarned that your heart will be a literary POW from the first page to the last.

Livy is Jackson Knight’s only daughter. He’s kind of protective of her, and for good reason. Livy likes to take risks. She’s fun, quirky and adventurous, but she has this naivete about her own immunity to danger. Once the mysterious and oh-so-tempting Slade Wylder moves in across the street, Livy loses any common sense she had. It’s hard to say the two characters have chemistry because Livy’s efforts to learn more about Wylder are like a wave repeatedly crashing into a sea wall…she gets nowhere.

The story is hot, sexy and improbable, but completely engrossing. I loved getting a glimpse at Jessica and Jackson again. The plot of Out of Love flows smoothly, there is good tension build as the story reaches its zenith, and the characters are engaging. I couldn’t put the book down! The story arc is nicely tied back to the Jack and Jill series without it creating the need to first read that series, but I predict new readers will definitely want to pick up that three-book series after reading Out of Love.
