What It’s About:

Six years before my phone rang and changed my life forever, I made a mistake.

I met a girl, we had some fun, and then we had a baby. And I fell pretty damn hard for my daughter. I was going to be there. I was going to give her everything I never had. I was going to have a family.

And then her mother disappeared and took my baby with her.

And now she’s done it again. Because that call that changed my life was from my five-year-old daughter asking me if I knew where her Mommy was.

Then came the lawyers. And the demands from her super-rich, super-powerful messed-up family. And the little fact that my ex didn’t just “disappear” she was “presumed dead”.

I don’t live a traditional lifestyle and I’m not in a traditional relationship.

But I can pretend if I have to.

And that was the plan when my two “best friends” and I decided to hire “professional liar” Brooke Alder to be my fake fiancée.

It’s totally gonna work. As long as MY super-rich, super-powerful, messed-up family doesn’t get in the way.

My Thoughts:

Author J.A. Huss cast her line with just the right bait to reel in this reader in her juicy Bossy Brothers series. The leisurely, bizarre start draws readers into Joey Boston’s odd life. Joey and friends, Huck and Wald, just live—they don’t question one another and they blissfully stay ignorant of the Boston family’s business. Brooke’s questioning and inability to define her feelings and thoughts create a bit of mystery and confusion about her as well as the situation she finds herself in. All of this set up leads to a wild, weird ride that includes the slightest reveal of a convoluted conspiracy. Fans of the author know just how well J.A. Huss can intricately weave this sort of story arc.

The characters are great; I found myself rooting for not only the obvious good guys, but also for the alleged bully. Joey is vulnerable. He is forever the middle child—he feels alone even with friends and family. The hints of complicated parentage leave both Joey and readers scratching their heads.

The oldest Boston brother, Johnny, becomes less elusive. Is Johnny the hardened, evil badass, or is he really a protective big brother?

I love the strength of the women in this series. In book one, it was Emma Dumas, and in this second installment, it is Brooke Alder. They’re the ones who make things happen; they are the catalyst for change. At first Brooke seems a bit of a ditz, but as her history is revealed and as she pieces together her story, both she and the reader see her fortitude. She is a survivor.

Bossy Brothers is a fun, exciting adventure. Author J.A. Huss’ writing is crisp. Her descriptive backdrops create vivid (and sometimes creepy) pictures in her readers’ heads. Her intricate story arcs engage readers’ minds as well as their hearts. This delicious escape from reality has it all—from humor and sexy sizzle to pensive reflection and a loyal team that might be able to get away with just about anything!
